Lawrence Halprin Dies, Age 93 →
Lawrence Halprin, urban planner and architecht, designed some of the best parkour training hotspots in the world, such as Freeway Park in Seattle (pictured below). He passed away yesterday. Zachary Cohn has written up a very nice tribute on behalf of all the traceurs who have benefited and will continue to benefit from Mr. Halprin’s work.
It finally stopped raining - time to train!
A little bit of Parkour/climbing fun yesterday…

Another long day of training in CT. Not shown here is a particularly long and grueling conditioning session - I was exhausted by the end of the day. Notes: A lot of progress was made on cat balance. Pop vaults are still giving me trouble, but wallruns are beginning to feel more comfortable.
Some training while visiting my mom in CT. My back is still a little stiff from a lifting strain earlier in the week, but otherwise I felt pretty good. Not shown here is a lot of pop vault training in the back of a local school. Notes: The wallruns are feeling a bit better… I am going to make it up that brick wall tomorrow. For some reason, my rolls were problematic today.
A little training after a relaxing weekend with my sister. I ate a few too many waffles during my visit and felt pretty slow out there - but I found a few fun new places to train. Notes: kongs weren’t going very well - took me a while to get back into them. Not shown here is a long session of cat leaps.

Had to work late today, so night training was necessitated… Notes: Running up the slick aluminum siding of that building while holding the camera in the dark was a TERRIBLE idea. I nearly fell. Not shown: A lot of balancing work on an inclined rail.
The video diary continues… I whacked my knees pretty good yesterday, so I was a little slower than normal today. Today was my first attempt at wallruns - they definitely need some work… I look like an idiot on the approach.
Gonna try to do this every few days or so. Hopefully it’ll be interesting to chart my progress.
Notes from today: Did a lot of balancing work, only some of which is represented on video. Also not shown: turn vaults, and side vault from a cat hang position.
YAAAAAAAAAAA
Finally have internet in my apartment.

nature red...
I just watched, from my deck, an eagle fighting an entire squadron of smaller birds. I almost got a picture of it but the battle carried into a deeper part of the forest and I lost sight of them.

Well, here I am....
In Chapel Hill, waiting for my stuff to arrive sometime between the hours of 3:00 and 6:00. I am listening to the rather amazing variety of songbirds and generally feeling pretty awesome about life over here… especially now that I have Internet. Oh, I am 90% certain that a squirrel has made a nest in my chimney. I’m inclined to leave him be for the moment… after all, he was...
